Heritage Courses vs. Non-heritage Courses

The Korean Language Program offers two separate tracks of Korean language courses:

(1) Heritage Courses

These courses are oriented for students who are raised in a home where the Korean language is spoken and understand the Korean language:
KREN 1001(H), KREN 1002(H), KREN 2001(H), KREN 2002(H), KREN 3001(H), KREN 3002(H), KREN 4001(H), KREN 4002 (H)

(2) Non-Heritage Courses

These courses are oriented for students who have neither a previous background nor knowledge of the Korean language:
KREN 1001(NH), KREN 1002(NH), KREN 2001(NH), KREN 2002(NH), KREN 3001(NH), KREN 3002(NH).
Non-Heritage students who declared Korean as a minor must take KREN 4001(H) and 4002(H) classes.

Placement Test

Students who have not taken a Korean class in the previous semsester must complete a placement interview with a Korean instructor during the Drop/Add Period. Students are required to visit the Korean Language Office (room 137) of Joe Brown Hall during business hours before 5:00. This interview will help place them in the right Korean class for their background and language proficiency.
